France's Cognacq-Jay Image Selects Omneon MediaDeck™ Servers for Upgrade and Launch of New Channels

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Jan. 10, 2008

Omneon today announced that France's Cognacq-Jay Image (C-JI) is installing five Omneon MediaDeck™ integrated video servers. C-JI will use the MediaDeck servers to provide mirrored playout of four television channels now and will be adding additional channels in the near future. This is the first deployment of the Omneon MediaDeck in France.

"We are growing our client base and adding new channels, and we needed a cost-effective media server solution that could be deployed quickly and easily," said Alain Lorentz, technical director of C-JI. "Also, we needed a flexible system that could handle content in multiple media formats, and the open architecture of the Omneon MediaDeck allows us to accommodate our customer needs in terms of format and specific requirements such as multiple languages or teletext."

C-JI, a division of TDF Group, is a leader in design, development, and operation of broadcast control facilities. Located in Paris, the facility offers studio and post-production, consulting, executive engineering, technology intelligence, and project management services. C-JI broadcasts more than half of the theme channels assembled by content providers in France.

The five Omneon MediaDeck systems will enable additional channels — Planète Justice, Vivolta, Fox, Voyages, and Pink TV — and over time will take over the evolution of existing structures such as LCP or Motors TV.

The Omneon MediaDeck is an affordable, integrated video server built on the same robust system technology as the company's flagship product, the Spectrum™ media server system, ensuring optimal interoperability and proven reliability. The Omneon MediaDeck includes eight enterprise-class SATA disk drives, built-in gigabit Ethernet capability, six SD or four HD channels, and hot-swappable disk drives, I/O modules, and power supplies.

"MediaDeck is uniquely suited to meet C-JI's requirements for interoperability, format flexibility, and fast deployment in the most cost-effective manner," said Geoff Stedman, vice president of worldwide marketing for Omneon. "C-JI's reputation for expertise in broadcast development and operations means that the company needed a server solution that is absolutely rock-solid in terms of reliability and quality. The new Omneon MediaDeck delivers nothing less than what broadcasters around the world have come to expect from Omneon."
