Omneon to Debut ClipTool™ Pro Solution for
Smart, Intuitive Server Control at NAB2006

SUNNYVALE, Calif.April 10, 2006 — During the NAB2006 exhibition, Omneon Video Networks will showcase its new ClipTool™ Pro application, which enables users of the Omneon Spectrum™ media server to monitor and control playout and record functionality via an easy-to-use graphical user interface. Part of Omneon’s MediaTools suite, the ClipTool Pro application provides simple, cost-effective control for ingest, quality assurance, and playout operations.

“As more and more broadcasters build digital infrastructures based on media servers, we’re seeing an increasing need for smart, intuitive control utilities for managing server functions and the media files contained within the system,” said Geoff Stedman, Omneon vice president of worldwide marketing. “With a VTR-like control surface that’s familiar to operators, ClipTool makes it easy for broadcasters to manage interaction with their Spectrum servers and take greater control over key system capabilities.”

Written directly to Omneon APIs, ClipTool Pro provides agile, precise manual record and playout control with basic and advanced functionality ranging from displaying sortable listings of clips to “crash record” capability.

The software’s sub-clipping function makes it easy to create new partial clips and throw away unwanted “tops” and “tails,” thus freeing up storage on the media server. A copy-clip function creates sub-clips from manually selected in and out points, and variable length handles can be adjusted to allow for in and out point trimming in the future. Simple on-screen buttons for jog and shuttle functions enable quick movement through a clip, making it easier for users to find specific frames for marking in and out points.

The instant crash record feature streamlines the manual ingest process and allows for a fast response when needed to record incoming material. Automatic naming of files in this mode allows for multiple open-ended records in rapid succession. ClipTool Pro’s multiple playback modes include bounce mode and standard loop mode, which allow product shots, bumpers, and graphics elements to fill timeslots as needed. To ensure adequate storage during manual ingests, particularly with open-ended edits, the system offers a storage availability gauge that prominently displays the remaining record capacity on the media server.
