SUNNYVALE, Calif. — April 10, 2006 — Omneon Video Networks’ new MirrorTool™ application, to be unveiled at the NAB2006 exhibition, provides facilities using redundant Omneon Spectrum™ media server systems with an automated solution for copying ingested and edited media files from one server system to another. This new addition to Omneon’s MediaTools suite not only simplifies maintenance of fully redundant server configurations, but also enables distributed production environments and more accurate and reliable disaster-recovery capabilities.
“For facilities with limited automation systems, MirrorTool can dramatically reduce the time and cost associated with managing files across multiple systems,” said Geoff Stedman, Omneon vice president of worldwide marketing. “With its unattended background operation and easy-to-use file-explorer interface, MirrorTool allows system administrators to minimize time spent on maintaining synchronized file systems and focus their energies on other elements of broadcast operations.”
When two Spectrum systems are used in a peer-to-peer arrangement, ingest and editing can take place on either system, and MirrorTool’s bidirectional synchronization capability ensures that the two systems always mirror one another.
In broadcast environments in which one Spectrum server system is used as the primary machine and a second Spectrum system is used as a backup, MirrorTool automatically copies ingested and edited media files to the backup system, duplicating the folder hierarchy as needed to make it an exact match. When the secondary server is located in an off-site location, MirrorTool supports disaster-recovery configurations by enabling a complete rebuild of the primary server contents.
