Omneon Spectrum™ Server System Supports Seamless
Playout Workflow at Unique O Channel Facilities

Indonesian Broadcaster Relies on Omneon System for Smooth Ingest and Playout Operations Spread Over Separate Studio and Master Control Sites

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — March 19, 2007 — Omneon Video Networks today announced that Jakarta’s Own Channel (O Channel) is using Omneon Spectrum™ media server systems to support ingest and playout for television operations within a virtual facility, split between two buildings located nine miles apart. The Spectrum server system and Omneon MirrorTool™, provided by systems integrator Roscor Corporation, help O Channel bridge this gap for smooth, reliable transmission of its lifestyle and entertainment programming.

“We selected Omneon’s Spectrum server system to support our new broadcast operations because it’s a scalable and stable solution with a good price-to-performance ratio,” said Ican Ismail, general manager of technical operations and engineering for O Channel. “Our systems integrator, Roscor, is very experienced in working with Omneon systems and has a long history of successful installations in Indonesia. The Spectrum server integrated easily into our unique facilities and has performed flawlessly.”

Roscor installed the Omneon Spectrum media server systems as part of a complete facility build-out. Due to real estate limitations, it was necessary to co-locate the master control with the transmitter and situate the studio and central equipment area in another building, miles apart. In this unusual installation, the two O Channel facilities are connected with a 45 Mbps wireless Ethernet transmitter from Proxim. Part of the Spectrum system is located at the ingest site, and the other sits at the master control area. The servers, running under Sundance Digital’s FastBreak automation, are equipped with Omneon MirrorTool, which enables seamless transfer of files from the studio to master control for playout.

An exceptionally cost-effective and flexible media server designed for the professional television industry, the Omneon Spectrum media server provides a reliable and scalable infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications. Omneon’s server system is built on an open architecture that allows it to support a broad variety of third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving, and collaborative production. The scalable, distributed architecture of the modular Omneon Spectrum server also offers users maximum flexibility in scaling system components and capacity in small or large increments as desired.

“Roscor and O Channel partnered to create an ingenious broadcast solution that takes advantage of the Spectrum server’s flexibility and ease of integration with other leading broadcast systems,” said Geoff Stedman, vice president of worldwide marketing at Omneon. “The O Channel installation represents yet another successful installation for us, and for Roscor, within the Indonesian broadcast market.”
