Fast And Omneon Video NetworksT Collaborate To Offer Media Production Tools

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- February 12, 2001

FAST Multimedia A.G. and Omneon Video Networks are integrating FAST'S purple® DV editing system on Omneon's Networked Content Server. This combination of video and streaming media production tools will provide an integrated new media infrastructure for collaborative production.

"Because Omneon is delivering a platform that serves multiple applications, the FAST purple system is the perfect editing solution for customers creating programming ranging from streaming media to high resolution digital television," said Brad Swenson, project manager of FAST Multimedia. "With the expansion of video services, the opportunities for production of new media are immense where customers are editing collaboratively from a common file system. The demand for content will drive more efficient storage and networking utilizing new technologies, like that of Omneon's connectivity." FAST's purple editing solution offers DV-based (DV, DVCAM and DVCPRO) native editing and scales to full project compatibility with all FASTstudio® products. Video quality is maintained throughout the editing process without 'generational' losses. The purple.XL option, with Media Cleaner Wizard from Terran Interactive, facilitates the creation of streaming media files for the web. The purple.XL software option also includes the DVMPEG encoder software from Darim that develops MPEG files for distributing videos via the web or on DVD. Omneon's Networked Content Server is an open, standards-based infrastructure for format and application-independent workflow. The system utilizes 1394 I/O with FAST's purple, as an edge device, allowing direct transfers to a common file system. The system easily scales to accommodate increasing bandwidth, I/O and users as collaborative workflow expands. "The partnership between Omneon and FAST will provide content creators with integrated systems to create, package, store and distribute video content, whether high resolution or streaming delivery," said Bruce McKay, director of post-production marketing at Omneon. "The combination of FAST's intuitive user interface and the networking philosophy of both companies highlights the advantage of a sophisticated infrastructure using standard protocols. "
