Tele-Cine Expands Its Omneon Networked Content Server System

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - IBC SHOW -- September 13, 2001

Tele-Cine Ltd., part of the Liberty Livewire group of companies and one of Europe's leading video and audio production centers, has invested further in Omneon technology. Tele-Cine is enhancing its current Networked Content Server to support the new gaming channel "Go Barking Mad." The Omneon server system currently installed at Tele-Cine is the centerpiece of the facility's 'Short Form' duplication area at its Charlotte Street site."We are very pleased with how the Omneon server has performed over the past year, so we decided to expand the system to support the playout of this new channel," said Steve Fish, vice president of engineering for Tele-Cine and Todd-AO. "The installation now includes Omneon's Extended File System which gives us the scalability we need to grow the system into new application areas such as transmission. Being able to mix and match formats on the same server means we can use it for both uncompressed dubbing work and DV-based transmission."Supplied by Boxer Systems Ltd., Omneon's UK Distributor, the sale includes DV/MPEG MediaPorts for encoding multiple formats of video and audio, additional storage for the Extended File System to allow the level of scalability needed, and IEEE 1394 Switches for networking the system. "Tele-Cine is now starting to truly exploit the scalability and flexibility of the system. An incremental expansion has allowed them to implement a new service cost effectively and to a very tight timescale," said Alan Hoggarth, Omneon's vice president of operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "The successful implementation of the Networked Content Server in Tele-Cine's Short Form Dubbing area gave them the confidence, in both product and company, to further develop the system for mission-critical use on- air.
