Coming soon to local broadcasters throughout the US, NTV of Russia will be broadcasting its programming to the North American market through its New Jersey based company, ART Distribution, channel name "NTV America". New studio facilities are now being constructed and scheduled programming will begin in the next month. In this installation, NTV America has integrated Omneon's NETWORKED CONTENT SERVER SYSTEM as their server infrastructure for the operation based in Fort Lee, NJ. The Omneon system will be used for ingest, program delay and playout of programming from Moscow, as well as the insertion of local news and entertainment programming. The programming is on an eight-hour delay schedule, broadcasting to the Russian speaking population across the US, depending on local providers in a given state.

"After taking a look at a number of different quotes, we came to the conclusion that the Omneon system was a more cost-effective server," stated Vice President of Engineering and Production for ART Distribution, Stan Spivak "It scales easily and is completely reliable for all our needs. Because our facilities are completely new, we look forward to working with an absolutely new system and technology."

NTV America said the system is ideal. "Taking into consideration the eight-hour time delay, we will be able to edit all transmitted content in order to create the ideal international and local programming promised to our subscribers," added Spivak. The initial Omneon server system runs 16-channels at 20Mbps MPEG Long GOP, with over 65 hours of storage.

NTV America is expected to be on the air in a matter of weeks. The signal is up and working, with the final details being worked out.

NTV America (fully owned by NTV MIR) was established in August 2001 for the sole purpose of providing much-needed quality Russian language television for the over three million Russian speaking population in the US.
