Omneon Video Networks' Media
Server System has been installed at Ohio Educational Telecommunications
(OET) to replace their tape-based system. The Omneon server provides
the State of Ohio agency with 32 channels and over 1,000 hours
of storage, and works in conjunction with NVerzion's digital archive
automation system for media file transfers to and from the Omneon Media
Server System. With the OET system, 16 channels are assigned
to input, 16 to output, and three of the overall 32 channels are
reserved for emergency playout. OET purchased the Omneon system
based on its flexibility and excellent growth potential. The system
went live on February 13th after being installed by RAF Associates,
the System Integrator. It has been running flawlessly since.
"OET is exceptionally
pleased with both the performance of the Omneon server and Omneon's
support," said Pete Ford, Chief Technology Officer for OET. "Our
server was shipped promptly. Once on site, it was installed and checked
out within a very short time frame. The quality and efficiency of
Omneon's on site technical assistance during installation and testing
was first rate. The performance and reliability of the server since
it went on line has fully met our expectations."
The system is configured
so that troubleshooting can occur directly from Omneon's Technical
Resource Engineering center in Sunnyvale, California. Firmware updates
can be uploaded from Sunnyvale, and the fact that OET's system wiring
and configuration diagrams are on-line and remotely visible from
Sunnyvale makes system maintenance seamless and reliable.
"Ohio Educational
Telecommunications' requirement for easy and cost-effective expandability
made Omneon the obvious choice," quotes Adolfo Rodriguez, Omneon
Director of Product Marketing. "This aspect, combined with NVerzion's
automation solution and integration by RAF Associates, were key contributors
to the overall decision by OET."
