Omneon Video Networks, a recognized leader in cost-effective and flexible networked media servers, today announced a new suite of Media Tools designed to provide unique functionality for controlling an Omneon SPECTRUM media server system and for managing media elements within an Omneon-based environment. The PLAYTOOL, RECORDTOOL, and TRANSFERTOOL enhance system operations by simplifying control over media playout, ingest, and management functions with easy-to-use graphical interfaces. These three new Media Tools are available as part of a new MEDIACONTROL Suite, giving customers a full complement of control utilities for their Omneon system installations.

For users who do not require automatic control over other external devices, PLAYTOOL provides a streamlined utility by which playout of multiple clips can be triggered automatically or manually from an Omneon SPECTRUM. PLAYTOOL allows users to assemble a list of clips and automatically schedule back-to-back playout of the clips from an Omneon system. Multiple instances of PLAYTOOL can be run simultaneously to control multiple channels of playback.

RECORDTOOL facilitates the ingest of content into Omneon SPECTRUM systems by enabling system operators to schedule recording of clips on either a regular, repeating basis or as a one-time event. RECORDTOOL enables segmented recording, which allows editing to begin on long-duration content during ingest, as opposed to having to wait until the entire record session is complete. Clips are created with name, title/description, start day, time, and duration, with options including date stamping, error logging, and use of a sequential naming convention.

TRANSFERTOOL is an FTP control utility that gives users the ability to view, copy, transfer, and manage media that is stored within the Omneon SPECTRUM. Through peer-to-peer transfer via an intuitive graphical interface, users can move media to and from external standard platforms and workstations (Omneon/Omneon, Omneon/PC, or PC/PC). The transfer of cued clips can be scheduled or performed manually.

These new Media Tools are available either as standalone products or can be purchased combined as part of the Omneon MEDIACONTROL Suite. PLAYTOOL is a standard, free-of-charge utility included in every system purchase. RECORDTOOL and TRANSFERTOOL are optional upgrades, licensed by each channel or transfer link, respectively. The MEDIACONTROL Suite includes PLAYTOOL for unlimited playout channels, RECORDTOOL for up to three ingest channels, and TRANSFERTOOL for up to two separate transfer links.
