Omneon Video Networks today announced that Tel Aviv-based MTVS, one of Israel’s leading broadcasters, has deployed a new Omneon SPECTRUM media server system in its state-of-the-art broadcast transmission center for playout of MUSIC 24, Israel’s first music channel and fourth commercial channel.
“In selecting a new server and playout system for our new commercial channel, MUSIC 24, we sought a system that would be capable of providing up-to-date features and help to provide a ‘fresh’ on-screen look for our programming,” said MTVS Director of Engineering Eran Katz. “Most of the materials we use are video clips, and the Omneon SPECTRUM server system is an advanced, flexible, and cost-effective solution that allows us to manage our large clip database with a very high degree of automation.”
MTVS’ Omneon SPECTRUM media server system is composed of two Omneon MEDIASERVERS, six DV/MPEG MEDIAPORTS, two MEDIASTORE storage chassis, each with nine 146 GB drives, and one networked server manager. In conjunction with Building4Media FORK/TV automation, the Omneon system at MTVS serves as the backbone for MUSIC 24 and future expansion. The system, which is able to acquire, store, manage, edit, and play-to-air up to 34 playout channels, also operates as the interface to a Sony Petasite archiving system.
The smart, multi-dimensional scalability of Omneon SPECTRUM systems allows facilities to add or expand I/O ports, bandwidth, capacity, and redundancy in granular increments, either simultaneously or independently, without interrupting system operation. A redundant architecture ensures that there is no single point of failure, and because Omneon systems are built on an open-standards approach, production applications operate seamlessly with the server in the shared storage environment. As a result, MTVS can maximize its functionality and productivity and thereby reduce current and future operating and expansion costs.
“MTVS’ implementation of the Omneon SPECTRUM system is an excellent demonstration of its flexibility and scalability as a facility grows and evolves,” said Geoff Stedman, vice president of marketing at Omneon Video Networks. “We’re very pleased that Omneon systems are a part of MTVS’ advanced broadcasting center and play a key role in the company’s plans for future development.”
