SUNNYVALE,
CALIFORNIA - February 23, 2004
Omneon Video Networks today announced that Emap Performance Television, a FTSE 100 media company whose seven television channels have been at the forefront of the UK music television market for the past 10 years, has deployed an Omneon SPECTRUM™ media server system to store all media for broadcast and playout. The server system from Omneon was installed in Emap’s highly automated facility at the close of 2003. The Omneon server will be used to support the network’s multiple music channels — The Box, Smash Hits, Q, Kiss, Kerrang!, Magic, and The Hits.
“Omneon has a very good reputation in the UK broadcast industry for providing robust media storage and playout, and they fared very well in our evaluation of suppliers for this project,” said Scott Monks, operations director at Emap Performance Television. “Their media servers offer us reliable storage that is flexible and easy to integrate in support of our market-leading music television channels.”
An exceptionally cost-effective and flexible media server designed for the professional television industry, the OmneonSpectrum™ provides a reliable and scalable infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications. Omneon’s server system is built on an open architecture that allows it to support a broad variety of third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving, and collaborative production. As a result, stored media can be shared among many users and applications.
The scalable, distributed architecture of the modular OmneonSpectrum™ server system also offers users maximum flexibility in scaling system components and capacity in small or large increments as desired. The system is available in a broad range of configurations to meet the specific needs of each user.
