Omneon Spectrum™ Server System Now Offers Extended HD Functionality With Simultaneous HD and SD Playback From a Single Channel

Introduction of New MultiPort 4100 Series Enables Use of Single Timeline in Multiformat, Multichannel Playout Environment

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- April 16, 2005

Continuing to extend the integrated HD functionality of Omneon SpectrumT media servers, at NAB2005 Omneon Video Networks introduced a new system capability that enables broadcasters to play back SD and HD content simultaneously from a single timeline of any combination of SD and HD source clips. With built-in up- and downconversion, the new system delivers integrated playback for today's heterogeneous broadcast facilities and simplifies the transition to HD.

This significant advance in streamlined hybrid playout is made possible by new Omneon Spectrum™ modules, the MultiPort 4100 series, a family of interface devices for MPEG-2 decoding that can support simultaneous playback of both SD and HD MPEG-2 material. Incorporating built-in up- and downconversion capabilities, the MultiPort 4100 series gives broadcasters the benefit of working with SD and HD on the same timeline. Operators can not only mix SD and HD material to create a single output channel, but they also can use one program timeline consisting of intermixed SD and HD material to create two simultaneous outputs - one for SD and another for HD.

Omneon's MultiPort 4100 series modules feature outputs for two synchronized channels, one for SD and another for HD, each built from a single timeline that can originate from either SD or HD material, or both. In addition to outputs for SDI video, HD-SDI video, audio, timecode, and control, each MultiPort 4100 module also includes connectors that give customers the freedom to choose either the integrated functionality or select their preferred external device for up- and downconversion. When an external conversion device is used, the MultiPort 4100 series' built-in, adjustable audio-delay compensation maintains audio/video synchronization.

The MultiPort 4100 series can be incorporated into any existing Omneon Spectrum™ media server to add integrated HD playout capabilities. Learn more about the MultiPort 4100 series and other Omneon server solutions at www.omneon.com.
