New Omneon ProBrowse Simplifies Clip Management With Easy Proxy Creation, Access, and Browsing Functionality

Omneon ProBrowse System Automates Proxy Generation,
Facilitates Immediate Content Viewing and Management

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Sept. 8, 2005

Omneon Video Networks today announced the introduction of Omneon ProBrowse, a complementary system to the Omneon Spectrum™ media server for creating and displaying low-resolution (proxy) versions of full-resolution material contained within the server system. Automatic proxy generation, coupled with user-selectable thumbnail images (“picons”) and metadata searching, significantly simplify clip identification and viewing for more efficient operations enterprise-wide.

“By providing Omneon Spectrum users and application developers with an easy means of browsing low-resolution proxies and modifying metadata, the new Omneon ProBrowse system serves as an integrated tool for efficient content selection, previewing, and management,” said Geoff Stedman, vice president of worldwide marketing at Omneon. “Users can view, catalog, search, sort, and manage SD and HD material stored on any networked Omneon Spectrum server system.”

The Omneon ProBrowse System monitors content directories within any number of networked Omneon Spectrum servers and automatically generates 1-Mb/s low-resolution versions of all material, including any new material being ingested or copied into the Omneon Spectrum system via live recording or IP transfer. Proxies are made immediately available for viewing on any networked PC using standard viewers such as Windows Media Player and QuickTime Player, or the more sophisticated and robust Omneon ProBrowse Desktop. ProBrowse proxies are also available to broadcast applications including automation systems, newsroom systems, and content management systems.

The Omneon ProBrowse Desktop application allows users to view proxies on a standard PC, add or change metadata, and mark in and out points on clips for playback from the Omneon Spectrum server. In addition to jogging and shuttling through the proxy material, operators can select a specific frame to serve as the picon, or visual representation, of the clip. An integrated synchronization capability ensures that all metadata modified or added by users in the low-resolution proxies will be applied to the full-resolution versions within the Omneon Spectrum server. The ProBrowse Desktop application also allows the user to monitor any of the audio tracks contained in a specific clip.

The Omneon ProBrowse system may be scaled independently of an Omneon Spectrum system to support additional proxy generation or a growing proxy library. Also, if additional ingest channels are added to an Omneon Spectrum system, additional proxy generators can be added to a ProBrowse system if needed to accommodate the proxy generation for the new material.
