Omneon understands that complete solutions require the tight integration of technologies and products from multiple vendors.
As a global leader in video infrastructure for the digital media industry, our dedication to technology partner relationships ensures that customers have the widest choice of products and applications while maintaining a tightly-integrated workflow solution. Explore the Omneon ecosystem.
In addition to IT and broadcast industry standards, Omneon provides a range of widely-adopted application programming interfaces (APIs) that enable applications to leverage advanced functionality inherent in the Omneon platform. Omneon APIs facilitate the creation, management, manipulation and delivery of media files and metadata.
Omneon systems and applications support industry-standard interfaces. For applications which require finer granularity in control or capabilities not provided by those standard interfaces, Omneon offers a number of APIs which may be used to enhance any technology partner's level of integration with the Omneon platform to create unique and differentiated product offerings. Omneon APIs are regularly updated and available to all Omneon technology partners:
The Player Control API enables network-based control over a Spectrum or MediaDeck media server, and is utilized by the majority of automation application vendors. The Player Control API adds significantly to the functionality and flexibility of transport control and clip management when compared to standard serial control protocols.
The Omneon Media API is used by a broad set of application partners to work with media within the Omneon ecosystem. The Media API allows applications to create and modify clip structures, combine existing clips, insert additional essence (such as secondary audio tracks or caption data) and manage clip metadata. Versions of the Media API are released in conjunction with major Omneon Spectrum releases, ensuring that application vendors have immediate file compatibility.
The Omneon MediaGrid active storage system was designed for easy integration with workflow and content management systems either through use of a standard platform file system driver or by using standard network protocols. More specific file access or file system management capabilities, such as quotas, reservations and internal copy commands, are available through the Omneon MediaGrid API.
To simplify the integration between applications and Omneon platforms while also exposing more functionality to these applications, Omneon has consolidated the clip and metadata management of the various low-level APIs listed above into a new common framework, the Omneon Media Services Framework (MSF). MSF is an integrated Web services platform that enables more efficient, best-of-breed file-based workflows by easing third-party integration and providing unified content management capabilities across the entire Omneon platform. Search, Organize, Metadata, Transfer, Clip, Browse, Transcode and a number of 3rd-party services such as Captioning, Automated QC and Archive are all available through this flexible, common interface.
