The open file systems of the Omneon Spectrum media server and the Omneon MediaGrid content library provide an opportunity for browse edit, craft edit, and graphics systems to easily access media files stored in the Omneon systems. In the case of edit systems, optimized support of Apple File Protocol and SMB means that media files stored in the Omneon systems can be network mounted to allow realtime edit-in-place or efficient pipelined transfer models for integration between production and transmission environments. Many self-contained and reference file formats, both QuickTime and MXF, are supported natively in the Spectrum media server.

Almost all file formats used in production can be transcoded or rewrapped (see Processing Web page) to and from Spectrum supported formats. And any file format can be stored in and accessed with the MediaGrid content library. Together the Omneon Spectrum, ProBrowse, and MediaGrid systems reduce the infrastructure integration issues faced by production applications. The Omneon developer support team also works closely with engineers within these third-party companies to ensure customers receive proven solutions.

The collaboration between Omneon and HARRIS Automation - formerly Louth Automation - began in 1999, and continues with the development of improved interfaces for the transmission marketplace. Omneon has adopted the widely used video disc control protocol (VDCP), strengthening the interface capabilities of both companies and underlining Omneon's commitment to preserving (and enhancing) their customers' legacy systems. Harris Automation now supports Omneon?s widely adopted Player API for Ethernet control on both their ADC 100 and next generation automation system (HRS). Omneon's file system simplifies the operation of Harris' media management function, and provides a powerful platform for interfacing with Harris automation systems. Omneon also has a proven solution with the Harris GMT product used in conjunction with archive managers (namely OTG) during the past two NAB conventions. Encoda Systems was acquired by Harris in late 2004. Encoda offers a full range of master control, ingest automation, asset management, remote automation and network monitoring systems that meet the engineering needs of TV and radio broadcasters, cable networks, cable operations and satellite operations. The DAL product family can be scaled from single station/channel operations up to 1,000 channel, centralized operations. Its systems allow broadcasters to support a wide range of operational models, whether everything is controlled from one location or multiple locations.
